Company History.

Malthouse Marine, as we were then, was founded in 2006 with the aim of providing excellence in value for money and expertise to the boating community of the South East of England. In 2008 we moved to the small island of Alderney, which offered a great environment for internet based business. At that time we changed our name to Alderney Marine for obvious reasons, a year later we registered as a limited company and became formally involved in sustainability initiatives; we believe these are key to the long term future of small communities all around the world.

Martin Smith, Managing Director.

Martin was born in 1971 and became obsessed with boats from an early age thanks to two uncles who were very helpful like that, many a happy childhood holiday was spent dragging the rest of the family up and down rivers, canals and coastlines. Martin lived for a while in the Weald of Kent, which other than being littered with Henry VIII's Cinque Ports was too far from proper water.

Martin is a qualified Royal Yachting Association instructor, he enjoys the challenge of making each course enjoyable and tailoring them to the customer. He also writes in every issue of the Alderney Journal on various nautical topics and, as per the photo, was involved in the MVS (Royal Naval Auxiliary Service as was) at a national level. Other projects included working with Dorset Police and the RNLI headquarters. Martin can also been seen doing occasional cover for airport security.

In 2011 Martin joined the Alderney Ambulance Service, having been an active first aider for over 20 years and with much needed driving qualifications. This is only serving to drive the company's passion for emergency medicine and supplying customers all over the world with the very best equipment and supplies.

Melanie-Jane Roots, Financial Director.

Mel was born in 1977 to a family of Kentish farmers, like Martin she has a favourite uncle. His idea of a good time was guarding African ports from rebels and mobs after the war. She insists that this in no way influenced her in becoming one of Kent's leading suppliers of military and specialist equipment. Mel has worked for and managed a number of large scale retail businesses, so on a good day she just about manages to keep Martin in check. Aside from her uncanny abilities with marine engines, Mel is also passionate about local produce and the resilience of the Alderney economy.

Mel and Martin enjoy the active participation and support of their very talented share holders.
