Like all of the Channel Islands Alderney is cut off from the majority of UK and EU funding, the two larger islands have far greater resources and they manage to both work around this and cope internally. Alderney, like many small and isolated communities, does not have such luxuries. On the one hand this makes projects like ours and others on the island harder to manage, but it also makes them more valuable.
There are three ways that you can help us to contribute to the island's self reliance:- 1) Get involved in one or more of our projects, most of which need people to volunteer with all sorts of activities from research and campaigning to getting sleeves rolled up. 2) Invest in Alderney Marine Ltd as a whole, this enables us to continue to carry out this work and provide resources in all areas. As a company we are an "ethical retailer" and working for the community, rather than taking advantage, is key to everything we do. 3) Sponsor one or part of our projects. We have activities ranging is scope and scale, the research generated as part of each stage is valuable and we are happy to share this with the relevant sponsor.
In any case, please get in contact either by calling in at The Walkabout Store (opposite the Braye Chippy) or by sending us an email to saorg@alderneymarine.com |
